15/03/2018: This work is due to start in May with the entire project set to be completed by mid-October.

The scope of works for the scheme is summarised briefly as follows: Removal of all vegetaiton and algae from the bridge stonework. Cleaning of bridge stonework, including carbon desposits. Repair and repalcement of damaged or missing sections of stonework. Repointing of missing or defective masonry joints. Replacement of existing signage scheme. Replacement of footway surfacing and kerb stones including widening of the eastern footpath. Repainting of existing traffic lighting columns and section of pedestrian barrier railing on Merchants Quay. Replacement of carriageway surfacing and road markings. Erection of 12 newly refurbished cast iron lighting columns on bridge parapets and associated cabling, conduits, ducting, meters and mini pillars (lighting columns and lanterns located in Cork City Council storage facility). Installation of new high level lighting columns on the eastern footpath complete with cabling, ducting, conduits, meters and mini pillars. Replacement of existing lighting on bridge elevations with new architectural lighting along the string course complete with all electrical works.
