24 January 2024 Offaly County Council have granted permission for the proposed development
Notice is hereby given that Offaly County Council, proposes to carry out development at 33-34 JKL Street, Edenderry, Co. Offaly. The development will consist of:
the construction of a new two storey Community Library and Arts Base, adjacent to the AIB bank, no.32 JKL St. (a Protected Structure), of 1,803sqm which includes; Adult, Teen and Children’s Library, Multipurpose Space and Artist’s Studios as well as ancillary support spaces such as library meeting rooms, wet workshop etc.
Further to the above the development includes works to the existing arch at the adjacent structure no.35 JKL Street (a Protected Structure), to include; removal of temporary structural bracing and insertion of a new structural support structure within the arch, lowering of the enlarged arch and reinstatement of first floor windows at JKL Street elevation and rear elevation, reinstatement of carriageway arch at ground floor and remedial works to gable wall.
The c. 0.42hectare site includes for a new pedestrian link promenade between JKL Street and Blundell Avenue. The new library building steps down to 1storey and returns along this new promenade. The Main Library and Multipurpose Room entrance doors are accessed via this new town square and promenade.
The development also includes a new shared space vehicular route intended for occasional use, access to 2no. universal access carparking spaces associated with the Community Library and Arts Base and through access for emergency services only. This extended promenade shared space is landscaped with trees and rest places.
