Tender: Proposed library development at Athgarvan Road, Newbridge, Co. Kildare. The site currently comprises a 1970’s structure which is in operational use presently as a library, and a 1930’s protected structure. The proposed development consists of the repair, refurbishment and fabric upgrade to the existing 1930’s protected structure and the construction of a new three storey building to its south. The works will require the demolition and removal of the 1970’s structure, which currently adjoins the protected structure to the south east. The protected structure originally served as the county library and is to be preserved due to its social and historical significance. The protected structure will be repurposed for staff accommodation and has an area of 290m2. The proposed three storey building to be constructed will adjoin the protected structure and serve as the new town library. This new library building will provide approx 2000m2 of space encompassing a predominantly open plan layout, with areas reserved for a children’s library, teen’s library, adult library, community spaces and multifunction spaces. (Development Reference No. P82022.21) Refurbishment and extension of the existing Newbridge (County) Library, which is a Protected Structure, to create the new Kildare County Library, Archives and Cultural Centre. The proposal involves the demolition of the existing single storey 1970’s extension to the Protected Structure. The proposed development will range from one to three storeys in height. The gross internal floor area for the Protected Structure is 300 sq.m. and the new extension is 1960 sq.m. The total Gross Internal Floor area of the development is 2260 sq.m. The proposed development will include minor internal alterations to the Protected Structure. Landscaping, public realm works, and ancillary external works are also proposed as part of the development. External works include the relocation of the vehicular entrance from Main Street to Athgarvan Road, landscaping works to create a new external courtyard (707 sqm) including 13 no. parking spaces, a bicycle parking store, and a refuse store. Public Realm works (2365 sqm) include – new hard landscaping to the footpaths around the library, modifications to the Main Street public realm to provide a loading bay, bus stop and 2 no. accessible car parking spaces alongside the provision of a new cycle lane.
