Permission for the development of a new helipad facility and elevated connection to the existing emergency department, on the northeast staff car park within the cork university hospital campus, the demolition of the existing boiler house chimney and construction of a new two storey staff car park on the west side of the hospital campus.

Helipad: (15,197 sqm.)
The new helipad will be constructed in the Northeast Staff Carpark on the Hospital site. It will be linked to the Hospital via an enclosed access way/walkway which will include bed lift and stair access. The walkway will connect to the Hospital’s Emergency Department (ED) at first floor level. Modifications will be made to the internal ED corridor to facilitate the safe transfer of patients from the helipad.
The construction of the link walkway works will also allow for new parking below the link walkway; the construction of a new stair & lift circulation core with (new) connection to the Emergency Department at ground floor level and associated reconfiguration of areas within this Department.
The main Helipad works will consist of the reconfiguration of existing staff car park (including the reduction of car parking spaces from 280-141 spaces) to provide two separate staff parking areas to the east and west of the new helipad, each with separate vehicular access; new Helipad and car park lighting; new external pedestrian stairways; landscaping works including the regrading of car park levels and soft landscaped areas around the helipad; the provision of new planting along the north and east boundaries; the erection of a new pedestrian bridge over the hospital campus ring road linking into new elevated walkway.
Paediatric Ground Works (6,000 sqm.)
Works to include the construction of a new campus road to divert traffic away from the existing road when complete, alterations and diversion of site services (e.g. ESB, Gas, Water etc.) & utilities, reduced level dig, construction of retaining walls, construction of Service Yard, installation of site services, landscape works, construction of fencing and guarding together with associated external works on a “Live” Hospital campus.
