The State pump an extra €10m, on top of the €20m it pledged three years ago, into the construction of the 6,000-capacity venue.

An announcement, of a state investment package, which could be worth up to €10m, in a range of supporting public infrastructure around the former Beamish and Crawford brewery site.

A significant increase in private funding from developers BAM and the venue’s proposed operators, Live Nation, which could also be worth another €10m.

Mixed use development of the Beamish and Crawford brewery site at South Main Street, Cross’s Green, French’s Quay and Proby’s Quay in the city of Cork. The site is bounded on the South and West by the South Channel of the River Lee with boundary fronting French’s Quay and Cross’s Green. The development proposes partial demolition of the structures on the site, the conservation and extension of protected structures within a comprehensive redevelopment of the entire site which measures 1.7973 hectares gross area. The proposal includes for a) the construction of an Event Centre/Arena measuring 11,339 sq.metres, b) the conservation and change of use of 9,646 sq.metres of protected structure and the extension to same of 2,311 sq.metres for the use, inter alias, as an 8 screen cinema, shops, exhibition areas, restaurants, bars, viewing gallery and artist’s studios, c) the construction of 2,978 sq metres of new retail units, d) the construction of 5,148 sq.metres of new office units, e) the construction of 10 no work/live artist’s studio, f) the provision of 206 no student bed spaces in 46 no student apartments, g) a basement level measuring 2,574 sq.metres, incorporating 30 no parking spaces, bicycle parking and support services for the development, h) the construction of two no pedestrian bridges across the south channel of the river Lee linking the brewery site to Cross’s Green and French’s Quay/Proby’s Quay. The buildings range to a height of 41.113 .o.d in the centre of the site from a new ground level of 4.0 .o.d. The development provides for a variety of scales ranging from four to seven stories in height incorporating mezzanines floors in part. The amount of publicly accessible open space and circulation space which will result from the development is 0.7027 ha approx. The total development proposed, including the retention/conservation of protected structures, measures 42,870 sq.metres. The application relates to a site which contains protected structures and the proposed development affects these structures. The application is accompanied by an Environmental Impact Study.
