20 April 2017:
Some 2,000 new homes are to be fast-tracked at two locations in Fingal by 2021 under a €20m funding boost which will allow the local authority carry out vital road infrastructure works to open the lands for housing.
Some €15.5m has been allocated for the Donabate Distributor Road which will allow 1,200 housing units be provided by 2021.
A further €4.9m has been earmarked for the Oldtown/Mooretown Road upgrade which will allow for the development of 800 housing units in the same period.
And these two areas have the potential to deliver a further 3,400 units in the longer-term under the Local Infrastructure Housing Fund (LIHAF) established as part of the ‘Rebuilding Ireland programme’.
A third area, Stapolin in Baldoyle, has been allocated just over €6m to deliver a total of 1,500 houses in the long term.
Local authorities were invited to submit proposals for investment in public infrastructure such as roads, bridges and amenity spaces, with the objective of relieving critical infrastructural blockages, which would in turn enable the accelerated delivery of housing on key development sites and improve the viability of new housing projects in urban areas of high demand for housing.
