Proposed forest adventure area & multi-use reinforced grassed area. The proposed Forest Adventure facility will occupy an area of approximately 5 hectares close to the main car park in the Demesne. It will provide children and adults an opportunity to climb into and move between the canopies of large mature trees in the woodland in a safe and enjoyable way and will contribute significantly to outdoor amenity in the park. The facility will be designed in a sustainable way to avoid damage to the woodland and will take advantage of existing infrastructure in the park including changing rooms, paths and car parking areas. If approved, the Council will seek expressions of interest from suitably experienced operators to assist with the design, development and management of the facility. Income generated by the activity will be used to help fund woodland management projects in the Demesne. It is proposed also to develop a Multi-use reinforced grass area adjacent and contiguous to the existing Bridgefield car park on the north eastern side of the Demesne. The reinforced area will provide a weather independent area in the park, close to Malahide village which can be used for a wide range of activities, including overflow car parking, public events and events related activities. In particular, the area will significantly reduce costs associated with the protection and repair of grass areas required for large scale events in the Village and Demesne. The area is located close to the terminus of the planned Broadmeadow Way cycle/walkway and will assist with the management of this facility. The development of this reinforced grass area will require the reconfiguration of sports pitches in the Demesne but will not result in an overall reduction in the sports facilities for local clubs.
