11/01/2023: Works to begin before 2024.
The project involves the creation of a high quality public realm space along the City Quays along the River Lee South Channel between Parnell Bridge and Parliament Bridge. The main elements of the works will consist of the following:
– Site clearance and utility diversions
– drainage works including approximately 630m of new surface water drainage, 71m of foul drainage diversions
– Construction of 2no underground surface water pumping stations
– construction of approximately 560m of new reinforced concrete flood defence parapet walls on the quayside, including stone copings, intermitted stone bollard features and stainless steel railings
– Approximately 535m quay wall remedial works to be undertaken in conjunction with a reserved specialist subcontractor, including quay wall cleaning, repointing, grouting and construction of a new concrete backing wall.
– Removal of existing quay wall timber fenders in poor condition and installation of replica timber fenders at Parnell Plaza
– Refurbishment of historic features including cast iron bollards, cast iron lamp standards, mooring rings etc.
– installation of 7no demountable flood barriers
– Works to Trinity Bridge including construction of 4no new bridge-widening structures
– Construction of an approximately 110m2 viewing platform at Parnell Plaza, partially projecting into the channel.
– Construction of a 26m long boardwalk at Union Quay.
– Installation of 17no in-channel piles and approximately 44no piles on the quayside to support the proposed structures and drainage chambers
– Placing of fill to raise quayside ground levels by typically 0.3m over an approximately 5,000m2 area
– Construction of new road pavement including asphalt road pavement, stone sett road pavement, stone flag paved footpaths, stone kerbs etc over an approximate 6,300m2 area
– New public lighting scheme over approximately 560m length
– New street furniture over an approximate 6,300m2 area
– Non-return valves on drainage outfalls
