1 November 2022:

The A5 scheme could commence construction in early 2024 depending on the findings of the Planning Appeals Commission (PAC) and any subsequent legal challenges.

8 January 2017:

Construction of the A5 motorway which will connect Dublin and the border counties to Derry and Letterkenny will begin this year.

The project is the biggest road project ever undertaken in Northern Ireland.

In 2015, British and Irish governments, and the main political parties in the North, committed to providing funding of £50 million for the A5 Western Transport Corridor serving the North West and also committed an additional £25m to the project.
