The proposed scheme involves the construction of a two-storey stand alone extension to the existing St. Josephs National School, Templerainey, Arklow, Co. Wicklow. The new extension consists of 10 no. general classrooms, 4no. Set rooms and ancillary facilities. The contract also includes minor alterations and works on the school’s site. The associated works on the site include resurfacing existing tarmac play area, adjustments to a boundary wall to allow emergency access, provision of 2 no. disabled parking spaces to existing carpark, provision of ramp, landscaping elements including planters and paved surfaces and all associated utilities and drainage works. Upon completion of extension the contractor is required to remove bases and associated utilities and service to existing prefab units. A new tarmaced play area is proposed in the location of the existing prefabs. These prefabs will remain occupied by the school until the new extension is complete for occupation. The existing school building is to remain in use during construction. There will be a dedicated construction traffic access point to the contractors compound. The school vehicle and pedestrian traffic will use the existing front carpark and an alternative carpark on neighbouring site for the duration of the contract.
