Upgrade of water treatment plant will consist of provision of new ph correction plant and equipment including a new control building and two bunded storage tanks. Diversion of existing interconnecting pipework and the provision of raw water flow monitoring and chemical mixing equipment (static mixer) in new below ground chambers. Provision of a new flash mixer/flocculation tank which will be partially below ground. Demolition of the existing flash mixer following commissioning of the new flocculation tank. Provision of a new sludge handling system (conveyor system) to deliver dewatered sludge to an articulated trailer for transport off site.

Irish Water is currently advancing the Lough Mask Regional Water Supply Scheme – Water Treatment Plant Upgrade Design Build Operate Contract comprising the upgrade and expansion of the existing raw water intake works and water treatment plant to achieve a treated water output of 54,000m3/day. The existing water treatment plant is capable of a treated water output of 38,000m³/day.

The works required under the contract are to be delivered on a Contractor Design-Build-Operate basis. The DBO contract is approx. 18 months Design and Build including a process proving period and with a 1 year Operation and Maintenance period.

The planned works are necessary to ensure compliance with EU Directives, Irish National Standards and Regulations relating to treated water for human
consumption

Construction works will commence on site in December 2016 and the completed works are expected to be fully commissioned in June 2017.
