A planning application will be submitted to the County Council shortly for a new building for Presentation College in Athenry.
The school was given the go-ahead early this year to use its own site at Ballygurrane for the new building.
The secondary school currently has more than 1,100 pupils and has to use 25 prefabs in addition to the existing building to accommodate the numbers.
Following a series of delays due to concerns over the proposed location of the new building, the development is now back on-track subject to planning permission.
The National Development Finance Agency is preparing to submit a planning application – once the Department of Education signs off on the plans.
It’s hoped that construction can begin in early 2017.
