The construction of a €2.5m pedestrian and cycling route between Baldoyle and Portmarnock has been given the go ahead by An Bord Pleanala.

The 1.8km greenway between the two coastal towns will predominantly run along the boundary of the new Racecourse Park on an off-road route parallel to the existing Coast Road.

When completed, the scheme will provide a continuous pedestrian link between Baldoyle and Malahide and represent a major new amenity for the area.

The detailed design of the route takes specific account of the coastal setting and ecology of the area.

Construction will take approximately one year to complete.
