01 Jul 2022 Construction of a new building (34.3sqm) to house floodlighting controls for the Sportsground

Permission for development which will consist of :
1) The demolition and removal of the existing Clan Terrace, Connacht Rugby offices, maintenance buildings and training pitches, ancillary temporary cabins and storage facilities, section of boundary wall along College Road and ESB Sub station and Switch room.

2) The new construction will consist of: A new North Stand with terracing and seated areas over 4 levels and which will also incorporate player and match day facilities, a cafe, sports merchandise shop, TV facilities, various hospitality areas, supporter facilities and plant areas. The Refurbishment and extension of the existing South Stand. A new High-performance Centre comprising of a new indoor synthetic training pitch and office accommodation which will incorporate offices and player welfare facilities (canteen, treatment rooms, etc) to replace the demolished clubhouse. This new High-Performance Centre is adjacent to the existing Bohermore Cemetery wall which is within the curtilage of a site with a protected Structure (RPS Ref. No 1204). Replacement of the existing floodlights with new floodlighting. Reallocation of the existing main vehicular and pedestrian access off College Road and the construction of a new concourse area adjacent to the new North Stand. A new ESB Substation and Switch Room. The construction of 81 number new parking spaces within the site (resulting in a nett gain of 23 spaces onsite). All associated signage including entrance Totem signage at the main entrance. The replacement of the existing grass main playing pitch with a new 4G playing surfaced pitch. A new storage building and maintenance yard. Hard and soft landscaping and boundary treatments including semi-mature trees and paving as indicated. Associated site works including provision of new foul and surface water sewers, site signage, generators, gas skid, stone cladding to existing retaining wall, etc. Minor modifications to the existing greyhound track to accommodate the above works. Relocation of the existing telecommunication equipment onsite. A Natura Impact Statement has been prepared as part of the Planning Application.

Phase 1 Works consists of;
– The replacement of the existing grass playing pitch with a new synthetic playing pitch and associated drainage works
– Associated site works, services and landscaping
– Floodlighting Works (by Reserved Specialist)

The works are located at the Sportsground at College Road in Galway. The works are expected to commence at the end of May, 2022 and must be completed by late August, 2022 – in order for Connacht Rugby to re-commence playing on this pitch at the start of the new season.
