Modifications to the previously permitted Planning Permission Ref 07/2132 (extended until 06/08/2017 under ref. no. 12/7068) for the extension of the Sports Arena including a two storey extension to the rear of the existing Arena building to provide a 25x10m training pool complete with diving facility to 4m depth at one end, increased cardiovascular and weight training areas, additional squad changing rooms and dry sport team changing rooms complete with ancillary pool plant room at basement level and extension of existing plant room at upper level. Also the relocation of the Kilmurry student village access road, landscaping and ancillary site development works on 0.56 hectare site. The site is located circa 300m from Plassey House (a protected structure) and circa 700m from Plassey Mill and Headrace (a protected structure). The University of Limerick falls within an Architectural Conservation area. The proposed modifications apply to the dry sports element only and comprise of an increase in area from 966 sq.m over three storeys to include changing facilities, a gymnasium, treatment, recreation and meeting rooms, offices and roof level plant enclosures along with revised elevations, reconfiguration of adjoining escape stairwell, landscaping and ancillary site development works.

Plassey Campus Centre, a University of Limerick Company responsible for the development and management of Campus student accommodation, now wish to proceed with a phased refurbishment programme for their existing Student Residences. Plassey Campus Centre currently operates six (6) Student Villages on the University of Limerick Campus. Refurbishment works are now planned for the Student Residences which comprise a mix of two storey houses and multi-storey apartment blocks in the separate Student Villages. The project comprises the refurbishment and upgrade of Student Residences for the University of Limerick (the “Authority”). The works will be carried out in a number of separate Student Villages, on a phased basis over a four (4) year
period. The work to be carried out in each of the Student Villages will vary. An initial indication of the works required in Plassey, Kilmurry, Dromroe and Thomond Student Villages is set down in the Project Information Memorandum. Works in other Student Villages carried out as part of the Refurbishment Programme will be detailed in the tender documents for these projects.
