17 August 2016:
Irish Water is to invest over €4 million to upgrade Stranorlar Wastewater Treatment Plant in Donegal if the plans are given the go-ahead.
The upgrade is being carried out to address compliance issues, provide increased capacity, and lessen impacts on receiving waters.
Works include the upgrade of the inlet works, coarse screening and grit removal, a flood protection wall and berm, replacement of existing mechanical and electrical equipment, upgrade of existing treatment plant structures, construction of new treatment tanks and underground chambers including storm water tanks, extension to the existing sludge control building, upgrade of the existing site road to provide alternative access around the site for adjacent landowners, a realignment of the existing site access, and all associated site works.
Donegal County Council is expected to make a decision by Wednesday 21 September.
